Corrections

A correction records a change to a statement. It does not record a change to an event. Where a reader has relied on an earlier version, the Bureau recommends discontinuing use of that version rather than reconciling the two.

    A correction to the founding language in the Bureau's nationwide continuity release. The Bureau has been founded since 1908. No factual change has occurred.

What a correction does not do

A correction to a release does not amend the Official Record. Where a release described an event inaccurately, the event continues to have occurred as approved, and the release is brought into agreement with it.

Readers are not required to update a prior memory following a correction. Voluntary recollection alignment is encouraged.
